Build a Small Wine Rack

Hits: 2

A wine rack can add a decorative flair to a kitchen, dining room or living room. One of the simplest, and best styles for small wine racks, has the wine bottles resting in wood recesses. Building your own  will not only let you choose the look and finish of the wood, but you can customize the size to meet your space requirements.
Instructions
1
Clamp the ends of one of the 20 1/2-inch long-boards in place and position the center of the board over empty space.
2
Locate the exact center of the 6-inch sides and mark a line down the board with your pencil. Then measure 3 1/2 inches from each end and make marks on the center line. Finally measure 4 1/2 inches from each of the first marks and make a second. This will leave you with four marks on the center line.
3
Use your 4-inch hole saw to drill holes into the board centered on the marks. Use the drum sander to smooth the edges of the holes.
4
Move the board to your table saw and rip the board 2 1/2 inches in from one of the long sides. This will leave you with a 20 1/2-by-2 1/2 inch board that has four semi-circles in it. Do the same ripping procedure on the other half of the board to create two identical pieces.
5
Repeat this process with the other board, except use a 2-inch hole saw instead of the 4-inch one.
6
Place both of the end pieces on a table in front of you and face them so you look at the inside faces. From one of the bottom corners, make a mark that is 1/2-inch in from the side and 1 1/4 inches up from the bottom. Do this on both bottom corners for both pieces of wood. Now make tow marks near the top corners that are 1/2-inch in from the side and 1 1/2 inches down from the top.
7
Place one of the side pieces into a clamp to hold it in place. Position one of the 20 1/2-inch cross panels with the 4-inch holes so that the lower outside corner is aligned with one of the bottom marks on the side piece. Drive a screw through the outside of the side panel and into the center of the cross panel. Position the other cross panel with 4-inch holes so the top outside corner aligns with the mark directly above the cross panel you just installed. Screw this cross panel into place as well.

8
Repeat the process using the cross panels with the 2-inch holes. When all four cross panels are screwed in place, put the other side panel at the other end of the cross panels, and screw it in place.
