Clean Sticky Wire Shelving
Wire shelving is useful for storage and is inexpensive to install. However, wire shelving becomes dirty and sticky very quickly, and you may dread cleaning the shelving due to the intricacies of the many wire pieces on each shelf. With just a few simple steps, you can get that wire shelving clean and sparkling again, free of stickiness.
Remove all the items from your wire shelving unit. It may be helpful to take the shelving outdoors for cleaning, as the cleaning process gets messy. Otherwise, place it atop newspaper or a plastic tarp.
Spray the shelving from top to bottom with degreaser or kitchen appliance cleaner. Make sure you coat the shelves thoroughly with degreaser or cleaner.
Allow the cleaner or degreaser to soak on your shelves for a few minutes to loosen the dirt and residue. However, don't let the cleaner dry and harden on the shelves, or you will have to start the process again from the beginning.
Mix a few squirts of mild dish soap into a bucket of warm water. Scrub the shelves with a stiff scrub brush dipped into the soapy water to remove degreaser and sticky residue. Remember to scrub the undersides of the wire to remove gunk and dirt that may have accumulated there.
Rinse the wire shelving thoroughly with clean water, then dry the shelving with paper towels or old cloth towels. Set the shelving back where it belongs, if you moved it, and replace the items that belong on the shelves.
