Commissioners open bids for razor fence at county jail
TOWANDA - At their most recent meeting, the Bradford County commissioners opened bids for a razor wire fence for the roof of the Bradford County Correctional Facility.
The installation of the fence is one of a series of recommendations that an interim warden, Wayne Gavin, made while serving at the jail in 2008, the commissioners said. The installation of the fence is the last recommendation to be implemented, they said.
Gavin is currently serving as the superintendent of the State Correctional Institution at Waymart.
The bids ranged from $38,800 to $55,284, with the lowest submitted by Reliance Fence Co. of Vestal, N.Y.
The commissioners voted to table action on the bids until they could be reviewed.
The commissioners have said that the installation of the fence was not prompted by a particular incident.
The commissioners also voted to purchase a V.A.C. Freedom Therapy Unit for the Bradford County Manor, which will help in healing wounds. Until now, the county has been renting one of the units.
