Design a Wine Rack
Wine continues to gain popularity among consumers, and more people are bringing wine into their homes. Whether you are a beginner with only a few bottles or a connoisseur with a cellar, it's important to store wine properly. Store bottles on their side for optimal shelf life; this is easiest with a wine rack that you can easily design yourself.
Instructions
1
Determine how many bottles you want the rack to accommodate. This is important, because ultimately it determines the shape of the wine rack and how many scalloped edges you will need to cut to hold each bottle. Think about the person for whom you are designing the rack; if you are considering it as a gift for a connoisseur, design a rack to hold 24-plus bottles. For the novice, a rack that holds up to six bottles will suffice.
2
Evaluate where the rack will be on display. A six-bottle rack should fit on a kitchen countertop; use your own for general measurements between countertop and the bottom of the top cabinets, and do not exceed this height. A large floor rack holding 24 bottles or more is sturdiest with at least six bottles across per shelf.
3
Using a ruler, draw a pattern on transfer paper to scale. You can also research the Internet or woodworking materials for downloadable patterns that can easily be transferred. If you are building the rack, make sure your measurements are accurate before purchasing materials.
