How to Attach Wire Mesh
Welded wire mesh makes an affordable fence material for large yards, pastures and garden fences. A standard wire mesh fence consists of wood fence posts secured in the ground with crushed gravel and a wooden gate. The welded wire mesh secures to the wooden post and face of the gate to form a durable barrier. The inexpensive hardware used to attach wire mesh to the fence posts is readily available and requires no special tools for installation.
Instructions
1 Set the 36-inch-long, 2-by-4 board on the ground near the first fence post.
2 Stand the roll of wire mesh on the 2-by-4. Cut the wires holding the roll together with a pair of side cutters. Unravel 36 inches of fencing wire mesh from the end of the roll.
3 Align the top corner of the wire mesh with the far corner of the first fence post. Hit a 16-gauge, 1/2-inch staple into the wood's corner with a claw hammer, ensuring the corner of the wire mesh is in the center of the staple.
4 Pull the end of the wire mesh toward the ground to remove slack. Place one staple every 6 inches to secure the wire mesh to the wooden fence post.
5 Pull the roll of wire mesh along the fence row. Move the board with the roll to keep the proper height between the bottom of the fence and the ground.
6 Secure the wire mesh to each wooden fence post, starting at the top and working your way toward the ground.
7 Cut the end of the roll of wire mesh to stop on the center of one wooden post when you reach the end of the roll. Butt the starting end of a second roll of wire mesh to the end of the first roll. Secure both ends with 16-gauge staples and continue installing the fence.
