How to Get Rid of Barbed Wire

Barbed wire is a common fencing material that is used in many parts of the United States. Sometimes people decide to remove it since it no longer serves its original purpose of keeping cattle from roaming. The issue is what are you supposed to do with this material after you remove it. Depending on your location and zoning laws, your trash hauler may remove it. There is a process for this service that needs to be followed.

Instructions
1 Remove all the barbed wire from the fence posts.

2 Cut the barbed wire into 3- foot sections. According to General Manager Tom Richards of Aspen Waste Systems, barbed wire needs to be smaller than 3 feet to be picked up by the service.

3 Cut pieces of the bailing wire to a length of 18 inches.

4 Lay two sections of bailing wire on the ground about a foot apart.

5 Stack the barbed wire sections on the bailing wire to a height of 1 foot.

6 Wrap the bailing wire ends together in a twisting motion. The barbed wire is now ready to be disposed of by the refuse company.

Tips & Warnings
Check your local zoning laws to determine if the barbed wire can be disposed of through the trash service. Wear work gloves so the barbed wire does not poke you.
