How to Make Powder Coated Wire Mesh
Applying the coating to wire mesh material takes a special sprayer and the ability to heat the mesh evenly. Powder coating is a process of creating a solvent-free covering on an item. In contrast to spray paints, the powder coat is a volatile organic compound (VOC) that is fume free and usually more durable. Powder coating materials can be found at a variety of online and local home improvement stores.
1. Lay out the wire mesh as flat as possible.
2. Apply a generous amount of isopropyl alcohol to a clean cloth. Wipe the mesh thoroughly.
3. Screw or snap the can of powder coating into the Corona sprayer device. Plug the gun into AC power using the supplied transformer.
4. Spray the wire mesh with the powder, holding the sprayer 6 to 8 inches over the surface of the mesh.
5. Place the wire mesh into the convection oven heated to 390 to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
6. Monitor the powder covered mesh. Once the powder melts evenly over the surface of the wire mesh , turn off the oven.
7. Put on the oven mitts and remove the mesh. Allow it to cool thoroughly.
