How to Make Wire Flower Baskets?
Hanging baskets are a wonderful way to display flowers around your home. You can hang them on a porch or apartment balcony or from a shepherd's hook in your garden. Making your own hanging flower baskets from chicken wire allows you to save money while you add a personal touch to your home, and it gives you the freedom to make your baskets any size and shape you want, instead of going from store to store looking for the right baskets for your garden.
Instructions
1
Lay one square of chicken wire on top of the other. Position it so that the corners of the two pieces do not meet; rather, lay the top square at a 45 degree angle to the bottom square so that each corner of the top piece sticks out over a flat side of the bottom piece.
2
Fold the corners of the top piece down over the bottom piece, and fold the corners or the bottom piece up over the top piece so that the two pieces are connected to each other.
3
Bend the chicken wire into the shape of a bowl, working gradually around the basket.
4
Bend any sharp ends of the wire toward the inside of the basket, using the needle-nose pliers. Use the wire cutters to clip any ends that are still too long or exposed.
5
Line the basket with sphagnum moss and fill it with potting soil.
6
Plant your flowers or other plants in the basket according to the instructions from the gardening center.
7
Fasten the hanging chains onto the basket if you wish to hang it, and tighten them in place with needle-nose pliers. Attach the hook to the chains.
8
Set or hang the basket in a spot where the flowers will get the amount of sunlight they need.
