How to Paint Metal Cages
Silver-colored metal cages can be used in many ways, but what if you wanted them to be a different color? There are many different ways to paint metal cages but to have a thorough and long lasting paint job you will need special primer and paint to successfully complete the project.
Instructions
1 Establish an area outside that will give you sufficient room to paint. Lay drop cloths down in the area about fifteen feet around.
2 Wash off any dirt or dust with a rag and water. You can use a tack cloth to wipe the cage down afterward to ensure a clean surface.
3 Administer a brush coat or spray primer that is designed specifically for metals over the entire cage. Make sure you coat the cage with an even amount of primer and let it stand for the amount of time designated on the can, usually 15 minutes to an hour.
4 Perform an all-over sanding after the primer dries with a soft grit sandpaper. Rub lightly over the cage and then wash down the debris with a wet sponge and dry.
5 Add another coat of primer to the cage. This will give you a nice primer finish and a stronger adhesive area than the one coat of primer.
6 Distribute an even amount of metal paint to the cage. Remember to spin the cage on each side to get even distribution.
