How to Use a Cooling Rack in an Oven

Hits: 2

Although you may consider your cooling rack an excellent tool for cooling baked goods without allowing moisture to accumulate on the bottom of the items, cooling racks have other uses in the kitchen as well. Use a cooling rack in an oven to support foods while roasting. Make sure your cooling rack is oven-safe and then put it to work helping you roast a variety of foods.
Instructions

1
Preheat the oven to the temperature you require to roast your food.

2
Set up the cooling rack over the roasting pan or baking sheet. Depending on the size of the cooling rack, it may be easier to fit the cooling rack over a baking sheet.

3
Place the food you are roasting onto the cooling rack. Some of the foods this technique works well with include bacon, roasts, meatloaf, chicken pieces and fish. You can roast almost anything on a cooling rack, enabling you to cook the food without having it sit in cooking juices while it roasts.

4
Cover the food on the cooling rack and the baking sheet with aluminum foil if you wish to use steam to cook the food also.

5
Remove the food from the oven after it finishes roasting. Follow recommendations for standing time -- often roasts require a short time to stand at room temperature before serving. Slice and serve the food while it is warm.
