Install Kitchen Shelves

Hits: 2

Kitchens often need more storage space than most kitchen cabinets can provide. Installing shelves in your kitchen will help to provide more storage. Kitchen shelves can also hold fun and functional décor like cooking spices, or china. Installing wall-mounted kitchen shelves is easy when you know where to start.

Instructions

1
Use a stud finder to locate and mark the studs on your wall. Mark the studs with a pencil.

2
Place the metal shelf standard on the wall and mark where the screw holes need to be. Once marked, remove the standard and use a drill to mark a pilot hole.

3
Attach the metal shelf standard into the wall using 2 ½ inch screws. Screw the screws into the previously drilled holes. Before screwing in all of the screws, use a level to ensure that the standard is plumb. The metal standard should be firm to the wall.

4
Hang the second shelf standard in place using the same steps as above. Place a level on the top of both metal standards. This will tell you if the standards are level with one another. For heavy loads, use three metal standards instead of two.

5
Place the metal shelf brackets into place on the standards. They should easily attach to the standards. Check to make sure the brackets are placed into the same holes in each metal standard.

6
Set the wooden shelves onto the metal shelf brackets. If the brackets allow, screw a 1 ¼ inch screw through each bracket into the wooden shelf to secure it in place.
