Make a Cement and Wire Bowl
Cement can be used to make bowls. Cement and wire are two ingredients in many sculpting and small construction projects. They can be used to build all kinds of items, including statues, sculptures and even bowls. The process if fairly simple, if a little messy, and yields solidly built results.
Instructions
1
Mix sand and cement powder in a 3 to 1 ratio. Use small units of measurement, since any extra mixture is just going to harden and have to be disposed of in an environmentally safe manner. Mix the two ingredients thoroughly using a trowel without adding water, yet.
2
Add water to your mixture of cement and sand, in small doses. Mix the substance thoroughly with the trowel between additions until the consistency of your cement mix is that of cream cheese.
3
Cut two circles of chicken wire that are each about twice the diameter of the bowl you wish to make. Cut one so it's an inch or less wider than the other. Place the larger wire structure on top of the other and fold its protruding edge down, over and under the edge of the smaller one. Bend the edges of the double chicken wire circle up until they form a bowl shape.
4
Pour your cement mortar into the the bowl's inner part and push it into the spaces between the wire as you spread it to cover the entire inner surface area of the wire frame. Continue until you've smoothly covered the inner surface area of your bowl to an even thickness of about 1/2 inch.
5
Apply globs of cement mortar to the outer surface of the frame, smoothing them evenly over it as you work, and filling in the gaps between the wire frame on the outer side. Smooth the outside surface cement until it evenly covers the outer surface area to a thickness of 1/2 inch. Allow your bowl to dry for a few days.
