Noyes Street Stop Will Be Closed This Weekend
Evanston’s Noyes Street ‘L’ stop will be closed this weekend as CTA crews conduct repair work at the station, according to a press release from the city.
The ‘L’ stop will be shut down beginning at 10 p.m. on Friday, Oct.12, and will not reopen until 4 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 15. CTA riders may use the nearby stations at Central and Foster streets over the weekend, or the #201 Central/Ridge bus (which runs on a limited schedule).
For the past year, the CTA has been conducting a renewal program on 100 stations around the city. Work includes painting, new lighting, power washing walls and ceilings, new signs and landscaping, according to the release.
According to the CTA’s website, the following repairs are planned at the Noyes Street station, which was first built in 1908 and last rebuilt in 1931:
Prep, prime, and paint platform canopy structure, including roof supports, columns, and base plates
Replace deteriorated sections of corrugated metal roofing underneath elevated track structure
Touch up paint on corrugated metal roofing underneath elevated track structure
Prep and touch up paint on elevated track structure visible above street-level entrance
Clean, paint wooden street-level entranceway/stair enclosure and underside of stairs to the platform
Replace rotted wood at base of Customer Assistant booth
Clean lenses and polish metal housing of light fixtures throughout the station
Replace wooden windbreaks on platform with new galvanized steel and lexan windbreaks, with perforated metal mesh vandal shield over window panels
Add an additional bench to the south end of the platform
Refurbish existing metal windbreaks, replace damaged lexan window panels and cover with perforated metal mesh vandal shield
Patch and repair loose or damaged concrete on platform deck, as needed
Remove abandoned bikes and bike frames from bike racks at street level, add additional racks
Replace damaged lexan windows in street-to-mezzanine stairway enclosure, including new painted wooden window stops and perforated metal mesh vandal shield over window panels
Relamp overhead light fixtures along walkway from sidewalk to entrance stairs
