Plaster Metal Angle Beads
Metal angle beads, also known as corner beads are installed on drywall. They consist of galvanized sheet metal or a perforated metal mesh. Some metal corner beads come with laminated paper covers that give them extra protection. They are placed on corner joints before the drywall plaster or "mud" is applied to the wall. They are used to create straight durable edges at the outside corners of walls.

Once the metal angle bead has been installed on the drywall, place a skim coat of joint compound over the surface of the seam with a 6-inch taping knife. Apply the fiberglass wall tape along both edges of the bead positioning it so that the seam is in the center of the tape when it is placed on the wall. Apply more joint compound over the tape.

Apply a liberal coat of joint compound onto the valley that the corner bead makes. This is the first 3 to 4 inches from the edge of the corner. Let it dry overnight.

Apply two coats of wall plaster, allowing the coats to dry or set completely before putting on the second coat. When putting on the second coat, place a generous amount over the taped seams in large smoothing strokes. Place pressure onto the side of the taping knife that is furthest away from the tape so that more of the plaster is left on it. Cover out beyond the edges of the tape by 2 to 3 inches.

Apply the third coat of plaster in a thin layer, lightly passing over all of the bumps and ridges to make a smooth surface. Add just enough plaster so that you can move it out to cover a surface area that is about 8 to 12 inches. Let the final coat set overnight. Sand down the plaster until the corner surface is even and smooth.
