Tips on Oven Racks
Handling Oven Racks
Some oven racks slide straight into the oven, while others have a diagonal end that forces you to hold the oven rack diagonally before you can push it into the oven. This design prevents the oven racks from sliding out when you move food and open the oven door. Always try to remember to adjust the oven racks before you preheat the oven. If you've forgotten or if you're cooking one item right after the another, always put on oven mitts and use both hands to adjust the rack. Do not attempt to reposition a rack that has food on it as it will likely roll right off the rack and into the bottom of the oven.
Cleaning Oven Racks
There are a variety of ways to clean oven racks and almost all of them include laborious and messy scrubbing. You can use the self-clean option on your oven to burn any food stains off of them. However, some people are concerned about leaving their oven on at such high temperatures. If this is the case for you, you can leave your oven racks to soak overnight in your bathtub with a few teaspoons of liquid dishwashing soap or dishwasher detergent. Place the oven racks in the bathtub and pour boiling water from your stove on top of them. The boiling water will help break down stains faster than warm or even very hot water from your faucet. In the morning you can rinse the oven racks and put them back in your oven.
