Wire Vs. Plastic Dog Cage
A dog's cage provides a safe haven from the commotion of unexpected company and comfortable quarters when he sleeps away from home. They vary in material and construction. Traditionally, dog cages appear in two forms: hard sided plastic cages and airy wire cages.
Privacy
Plastic cages obstruct a dog's view, creating privacy that mimics a den. Wire provides a clear view of a dog's surroundings.
Storage
Wire cages are designed to collapse. Fold and store them underneath a bed or in a car trunk when not in use. Plastic cages cannot collapse, but are lighter in weight.
Travel
Plastic cages contain and transport a dog during travel, and many models meet airline requirements for travel. Wire cages are not rated for travel. They can be sent as cargo and reconstructed at the destination.
Cleaning
Wire cages include a floor tray that slides out for cleaning. Plastic cages require reaching inside with a cleaning device or arm.
Insulation
While both styles are uninsulated, the enclosed plastic cage retains heat more readily. Drape a blanket over the top of a wire cage to insulate in cool weather.
