Aluminum Wire Mesh Size
Aluminum Wire Mesh Size
Aluminum mesh is used in an array of different things, from art work to fence construction, to protecting growing plants and vegetables against animals and larger insects. Both lightweight and strong, aluminum mesh is more cost effective than stainless steel mesh and has a high resistance to atmospheric corrosion.
Mesh Measure
Aluminum mesh is generally produced with strands that join at 90 degrees to each other, creating square holes between the strands. Different mesh sizes are available, with the strands ranging in thickness. The mesh is measured in the number of wires per inch, with the thickness of the strand decreasing with the increase of wires.
Roll Size
The size of mesh rolls vary, but mesh rolls can be cut to the required size prior to shipping. The price of the rolls are calculated per square foot, with the price decreasing with orders of larger rolls. Standard length rolls (50 or 100 feet) are also available directly from DIY stores. The width of the mesh rolls are generally either 36 or 48 inches.
Largest Size
The largest mesh has two wires per inch, with the wire being 0.063 inches wide and the spaces between the wires being 0.437 inches square. This size of mesh is used to protect flowers or vegetables against small birds or bats.
Available Sizes
Other sizes of aluminum mesh are available, with the number of wires per inch coming in 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 20, 40, 50, 120 and 200. The smaller mesh sizes are used for air vents, discs and filters, and even aerospace items. The smallest 200-size mesh has a wire width of 0.0021 inches, and spacing between the wires of 0.0029 inches.
