Clean Wire Oven Shelves
This is an easy way to clean greasy wire oven shelves. (Can also be used to clean greasy BBQ metal grates)
1. Working in a well-ventilated area (or outdoors), put the wire shelves into a plastic garbage bag. Add 1/2 cup of household ammonia into the bag and seal it shut with a twist-tie.
2. Leave outdoors (or in your garage) overnight.
3. Open the bag carefully away from your face (to avoid breathing ammonia fumes) and remove the shelves.
4. The ammonia will have turned the grease into a type of soap which can simply be washed away with warm water and a soft cloth.
Warnings
•Never use ammonia on stainless steel, since it will cause pitting.
•Wear rubber gloves since ammonia is corrosive.
•Always use ammonia in a well ventilated area. The fumes are toxic.
