How to Cut Galvanized Steel Wire
How to Cut Galvanized Steel Wire
Galvanized steel is coated with a thin layer of zinc, which helps prevent rust and corrosion. It is shaped into many forms, including wires and cables. Although galvanized steel is specially treated with zinc, it cuts the same as untreated steel. To cut galvanized steel wire or cable, get yourself some cable cutters and start snipping away.
Instructions
1 Insert the galvanized steel wire into a vice grip that is mounted on a sturdy surface such as a table or counter top.
2 Tighten the vice grip to secure the galvanized steel wire.
3 Put on a pair of workman's gloves and a form of protective eye wear such as safety goggles. When cutting the galvanized steel wire, it is possible that small shards may fly through the air; safety first.
4 Position the steel cable cutters on the location of the wire you want to cut. Make sure the wire sits between the blades of the cable cutters.
5 Close the cable cutters around the galvanized steel wire to cut it. Make sure the blades cleanly cut all the way through the wire.
6 Rub a steel file on the newly cut end of the galvanized steel wire to smooth out any rough edges that formed during the cut.
