How to Wash Window Screens

Hits: 0

Instead of viewing the world outside your windows through dirty window screens, take the time once or twice each year to remove them from the windows and clean them. After you see the difference between the view through clean window screens and dirty window screens, you will see the benefit of clean screens. Wash window screens outdoors, if possible, to minimize the mess you may create during the washing and rinsing process.

Instructions

1 Label each window screen with the pencil as you remove the screens from your windows. Write the window location on the metal frame to identify the window in which the screen belongs.

2 Attach a brush attachment to the vacuum cleaner and vacuum the mesh of each screen to remove the dust and debris.

3 Place two to three squirts of dishwashing detergent into the bucket and fill it with warm water to create soapy water.

4 Lean the screens vertically against a surface (such as a lawn chair or a fence) to allow you to work on them.

5 Dip the scrub brush into the water and gently wash the front and back of each screen with the brush, scrubbing every area of the screens.

6 Spray the screens thoroughly with the garden hose to remove all soap residues from both sides of the screen. Continue spraying until you know no soap remains. Allow the screens to dry in the sun completely and put the mesh screens back on the windows.
