Put Together Metal Shelves

Hits: 2

Use metal shelves in closets, storage rooms, garages, warehouses and stockrooms. Modular metal shelving racks save space by providing stacked storage for records, foods and manufactured products. Several companies produce or sell steel shelf units, so pricing is competitive. Most of these shelves are designed for assembly without bolts. The steel frames are sturdy and durable for years of dependable service.

Instructions
1
Stand two vertical side supports, or legs, upright. Set a horizontal brace between the tops and slip the securing tabs from the brace into the top slotted holes on the legs. Hold the brace at a perfect 90-degree angle with the supports and tap the brace with a mallet on both sides to set the tabs in the slots at the bottom of the holes.

2
Set a brace on the lower end of both legs in the same way, up one hole from the bottom.

3
Secure another brace in the middle of the two legs.

4
Repeat this process to build supports for the other side of a shelving unit.

5
Place a plastic or rubber cleat on the bottom of each leg. Tap the cleats with a mallet to secure them.

6
Connect the sides with horizontal shelf supports. Set shelving supports even with the braces on the sides to form a rectangular box. Slip the shelf support tabs into corresponding leg holes and set them securely by tapping their tabs into the hole slots with a rubber mallet.

7
Set the shelf rib braces between the shelving supports. Tap their tabs into the holes at the center of the supports. Only heavy duty units have rib braces.

8
Lay the fitted particle board or metal shelves over the shelf supports. Each leg is folded into a 90 degree angle that holds the corners of the shelves and keeps them from sliding.
