How to Use Mesh to Decorate Outside

Hits: 2

Mesh is a versatile fabric or metal material that can be used to decorate inside and outside the home. Mesh is commonly used indoors as romantic bed canopies, delicate table coverings and window dressings. It is also used indoors to decorate mantles and arched doorways. Fabric mesh can add color and softness to doors, windows, trees and arched trellises. Learn how to start using mesh to add color and flair to your backyard, front yard, porch or patio.

Mesh Ribbon

1. Purchase two or three different colors of poly mesh ribbon that you can use to decorate lamp posts, trees and wreaths outside your home for spring, fall and winter holidays.

2. Wrap one color around and up an external mailbox post in front of your home. Choose a color that compliments the color of flowers (if any) that are planted around the mailbox.

3. Use garland-wrapped poly mesh ribbon to decorate a pine tree in your yard for an outdoor Christmas tree. Wrap strands of colored garland around a length of green or white poly mesh ribbon every 12 inches. Add bows if desired. Wrap the mesh around the tree, starting at the top and working your way to the bottom.

Mesh Fabric

4. Purchase mesh netting in soft or bold colors that you can use to decorate windows, doorways and arched trellises with outside your home.

5. Select colors that compliment your outdoor house color. Create a decorative look around an outdoor door awning or window, particularly one that has an outdoor flower box positioned beneath it. Attach a curtain rod four inches wider than the window on the outside of the house, one inch above the top edge of the window. Loop two pieces of mesh fabric netting over the curtain rod. Pull the mesh to the sides and tie them back with an eight-inch piece of matching or complimentary colored mesh netting. Nail the mesh ties to the sides of the house with small painter nails to give the look of delicate drawn curtains outside your home.

6. Gently loop mesh fabric netting around an arched trellis for an elegant outdoor look. Start at the bottom left side of the trellis and loop the mesh netting around all the way up and back down the other side of the trellis. Tap in painter nails with a hammer to the bottom left and right sides of the trellis to secure the mesh there.
